More weather related photos

There have been a bunch of cool opportunities for picture taking in the past few days, I just have really bad timing.  Both Saturday and Sunday night, there were incredible lightning storms going on.  I raced home from work, grabbed my gear, went out into the country, and the lightning disappeared into the clouds right when I got out there.  Both nights, within minutes of me arriving at a suitable spot, the lightning was hidden, and never left the big clouds.  Finally I was able to snap a couple off tonight.  No lightning, but a decent rainbow or two.  Here they are:

Wow, the sky was going CRAZY last night.  Nothing really ended up happening, it just seemed like it was gonna get ugly for about 20 minutes.  Of course, while the neighbors ran inside, I ran to get my camera.  Here are a few shots, there was some definite “funnel” activity, because in one part of the sky the clouds were racing one way, and in another part of the sky they were racing another way, it was pretty neat.

This was the big scary cloud:

And this was the big hole in the center of it.  I wasn’t able to get a great angle, but you can  make most of it out:

P.S. Sorry about the delay in my updates, I’ve been quite busy, and distracted by other things as of late.  I promise I’ll make it up some day :)

Does this count as being “published”?

13 07 2007

I got as close as I’ve ever been to being published recently.  On Norden Autohaus’ website, they have a picture of mine to lead off a gallery of their showcar, the Norden1.  Head over to http://www.nordenautohaus.com and click the “norden tuner” link on the left.  Then click on the gallery, and mine is the first image.  The strange thins is that this shot was completely candid and unexpected.  I was driving home from a Volkswagen show in Sylvan Lake (FahrFromHome2006), and we drove side by side most of the way.  I just snapped this one out my driver’s side window at about 130km/h, and it turned out decent enough.

Not only did they publish me on their website, but we’re also doing a formal shoot soon with the Norden1, so stay tuned for some updates on that, I’m excited.  It’s such an amazing car, and it looks awesome too, very easy to photograph I’m sure.  I’ll be trying some new techniques, so I better get practicing on my car, so that they turn out well on the Norden1,

First milestone

13 07 2007

Hey everyone (aka the 4 people who check my blog just because I tell them to), just gonna put up a little celebration post, my blog has now received 500 hits (not even including my own!).  So congratulations to me, and thanks to everyone who checks here from time to time, I hope I can keep it interesting enough to keep you checking often.

And in other news, I got some new equipment that I am very excited for.  I bought a Nikon 70-200/2.8 VR lens on Thursday, so hopefully I’ll get it sometime next week.  I absolutely love the images this lens puts out, so once I get it you can expect an update almost every day for a while, I’m sure I won’t be able to put it down!

Quick one from my way home

8 07 2007

Pulled over and took this on my way home from work tonight. I was trying to get the mist coming off of the little creek, but wasn’t able to get a good vantage point. Unfortunately the fog isn’t very visible in the photo, but I like how it turned out anyway. Oh, and a quick tip for anyone taking pictures of any kind of farmland, especially farmland with a creek near by.. mosquitoes will be EVERYWHERE. I’m sure I got bitten 10 times within the space of about 2 minutes,

Happy Canada Day!

1 07 2007

Great weather for Canada Day today, it was a perfect day to get out and play my first round of golf this year.  Another first, I tried taking pictures of fireworks for the Canada Day festivities in Leduc.  I went down pretty late, so it was hard to get a good vantage point.  I took the risk of packing up, running to my car, and driving to another spot to try to get a better spot without people crowding in front of me.  I found some construction yard with no one in it, and it was close enough that my 70-300 lens was able to close in on most of the action, and do a half-alright job of taking pictures.  They’re not great, I had a pretty hard time getting the focus right, but here’s a quick selection of the ones I didn’t mind.  Hope you had a great Canada Day,
