Airriders’ 10th End of Summer — 2007

28 08 2007

2007’s edition of this yearly meet is the best I’ve ever attended. The location was great, the weather surprisingly cooperated, and the turn out was excellent. Huge thanks to everyone who organized, volunteered, showed, donated, everything, it made for really fun meet. If your car isn’t here, I’m sorry, I lost an entire memory card worth of pictures this afternoon.. very frustrating. I think I got 95% of you though. So as to not bog down this main page, I have a new tab up by the Contacts tab on top. Within that page I have over 170 photos from the event.

ALSO: This year I am offering prints from the show that you can buy. I work at a professional print shop, so they will be professional quality, and up to 12×18 inches in size. Prints will be available in 4×6, 5×7, 8×10, 8×12, 11×14, 12×18 and will be offered at a discounted price for volume. If you’d like pricing information, we can discuss that, and other specific detail through email. I have not posted every picture I have on here, so if you’d be interested in prints, but you don’t see a suitable picture, I probably have others of your car, email me.

***IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN ORDERING PRINTS, EMAIL ME AT nikondylan@gmail.com***

If you don’t email me, you don’t get prints, sorry.

Here is a preview of what you can see in the other tab:

I am also very willing to do a car shoot with you, if you’d like, my contact information is under the Contact tab, or just email me!

This weekend is the big End of Summer show weekend. Edmonton’s biggest Volkswagen show every year, and I do believe this is its 10th year. The show is on Sunday, this was just a warm-up BBQ breakfast at Norden Autohaus in Edmonton. It was nice to see everyone, and I can’t wait till tomorrow.

If you want to check out the show, here are the details:

School, and bored at work

23 08 2007

Here is a shot of the hideous beautiful orange school I get to attend next year, isn’t it…. eccentric?  And some shots of my new lens, taken at work, it was REALLY slow today.  If you know anyone who needs anything photographic, please send them to us.  You can only read all of our books so many times..

Here’s hoping for a few more months of really nice weather, or a huge dump of snow so that I can go snowboarding ASAP.  I’d probably prefer the latter.

Edmonton Folk Fest 2007 – Preview

13 08 2007

Wow, what a day. I have never been to Folk Fest before, and after Sunday, I absolutely can’t wait until 2008’s edition. The music, the atmosphere, the people and the location were all amazing. I am definitely going to make an effort to make it out for the entire weekend from now on. I’m at work, so I can’t go into much more than that, but here are a few quick pictures to tide the site over until I’m able to make a real update.

People setting up their tarps, reminds me of what Alberta looks like from a plane

Some of the first act I saw

And some others, they were all different, but all great

The main stage as the sun was going down

This guy was awesome, I didn’t see him not up and dancing once, he was so into it

And even Folk Fest cats!!

Stay tunes for more,

Spotted: Jetta on the Whitemud

8 08 2007

I don’t know who’s this is, and have serious doubts he’ll ever come across this, but I’ll post the pics up anyhow.  Drove along the Whitemud for a while with this awesome mkIV Jetta.  Really slick looking car, so I had to to the old “drive with your knees, while concentrating on taking photos” trick.  Call me a hypocrite, making this post 2 mins after the “Drive Safe” post, but hey, I’m wild like that.

IT FINALLY CAME!

8 08 2007

I ordered my big bazooka of a lens on Wednesday, July 25th.  I was told it should get here by Friday.  Friday, I was told Monday, and after Monday passed with no lens, it was just “we’ll see when it gets here”.  Every morning, I was like a kid wanting to open up his presents on Christmas, only to find no presents around.  It sucked.  Finally, Purolator has come through, and surprised me, they actually delivered it to my home today.  I love this lens, its huge, heavy, and amazing.  I haven’t really tested it out, but here are a few really quick “OMG I NEED TO TAKE PICS WHAT IS THE FIRST THING I SEE” pictures.  The first thing I saw was cats.  I’m on the edge of my seat too, so without further stalling..

Are you as excited about this as I am?  I thought so.

Drive safe.

8 08 2007

Last week, two huge trucks managed to run into each other on Hwy 2, making it take about an hour to go approximately 4km. It’s strange that this happened too, because I’m sure, with the lifestyles it seems truckers live, they both had at least 12 hours (give or take 11 hours) of sleep the night before.. go figure.

Hope there was nothing valuable in there, roof is completely gone:

The lack of.. you know.. the body of the truck makes for good air conditioning:

Stay safe,

-Dylan

A few more

2 08 2007

Here are a couple more from last night, including one shot I got of Rob and Lauren cruising down the Whitemud, and one that I re-edited to black and white, I don’t think I like it as much, but I’ll post it anyway.

Chill Session with Rob&Lauren

1 08 2007

Today I had the pleasure of joining two awesome Edmonton wedding photographers, Rob and Lauren. They were nice enough to take a group of people on a live shoot, to see how everything goes down during one of their sessions. Not only did they take us for the shoot, but they even took us to their place afterwards, to feed us and talk to us. It was a great evening, and I’m very glad I attended. They’re awesome people, and awesome photographers. Check out their blog at www. robandlauren.ca/blog, there’s lots of good work there.

Anyway, we took the models, who were very comfortable in front the the camera (in front of the SEVEN cameras), making it very easy to shoot. These were all taken on the University of Alberta campus, which is full of great locations. I’d like to thank the couple for volunteering, they were AWESOME! It was a great experience, and it really shows how much Rob and Lauren really appreciate what they are able to do, and by helping people just getting into this, they’re spreading knowledge and experience, I can’t thank them enough.

It was my first time EVER shooting people, so it was something new, but Lauren’s interaction really ran the show, getting them to pose while keeping them relaxed, she’s a pro at that :) It’s thanks to her that I was able to get most of these. Hope everybody likes them!

Hopefully everyone there finds these somehow, if you do, leave a link to your shots in the comments, I’d love to see what everyone else came up with!
